Under 2's Room
Our under-twos room is a warm, nurturing and welcoming space where babies and young children can feel safe, secure and confident as they begin to explore the world around them. The environment is thoughtfully arranged with age-appropriate and accessible resources, including sensory materials, books, soft-play equipment, musical toys, treasure baskets, construction resources and opportunities for early imaginative play. Activities and experiences are carefully adapted to reflect each child’s individual interests, needs, routines and stage of development.
Children are supported across all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage, with particular focus on the three Prime Areas that provide the foundations for future learning. Communication and language is encouraged through songs, rhymes, stories, gestures, responsive interactions and lots of talking throughout the day. Personal, social and emotional development is supported through warm, consistent relationships with familiar practitioners, helping children to develop secure attachments, confidence and a positive sense of themselves. Physical development is promoted through tummy time, crawling, climbing, walking, movement, sensory play and opportunities to develop early fine-motor and self-care skills.
Children are gently introduced to the Specific Areas through meaningful play and everyday experiences. Early literacy is encouraged through sharing books, songs, rhymes and mark-making opportunities, while early mathematical development is supported through counting songs, sorting, filling and emptying, exploring shapes, sizes and simple patterns. Understanding the world develops as children explore different textures, natural materials, people, objects and their surroundings using all of their senses. Expressive arts and design is encouraged through music, movement, messy play, painting, sensory experiences and creative exploration.
Our caring practitioners closely observe each child, follow their individual routines and interests, and plan meaningful experiences that encourage curiosity, confidence and development. We aim to ensure every child feels happy, loved, valued and secure while building the strong foundations they need for the next stage of their learning journey.
